Mont St. Michel is a beautiful island commune in Normandy, France. For centuries, this small island has been a place of pilgrimage for Christians seeking a spiritual experience. Legend has it that in the 8th century, the Archangel Michael appeared to the Bishop of Avranches and commanded him to build a sanctuary on the island. And so, in the years that followed, a magnificent abbey was built atop the island's steep cliffs.
